The
school has a very strong and active P.T.A. that it shares with
the adjoining Infant School, and neighbouring Castlewood School
for the annual village Carnival and Firework celebration. All
parents and carers of children attending either school are automatically
members and are encouraged to participate either by joining the
committee or by helping at the fundraising events arranged. New
ideas and initiatives are always welcomed, as are new members.
|
The
P.T.A. plays a leading role in community life, being the
organiser of two of the biggest events held in the village
each year namely, the bonfire and firework display, and
the carnival and fete. Thanks to the boundless enthusiasm
and hard work of the P.T.A. members, profits from these
events enable the school to purchase many extra items thus
maintaining the high standard of educational support. All
monies raised and presented to the Junior School have previously
been used towards the extensive redevelopment of the school
grounds, striving to make it a more exciting and purposeful
environment.

More
recently funds raised have helped with the development of
the hall with extensive new staging and audio/visual equiptment.
IT provision has been boosted with a more modern, streamlined
IT suite and a more comfortable and comprehensive library.
This year we will be developing a Digital Media Suite where
pupils will be able to experiment with the new technologies
surrounding Music, Photography,Media and Video production.

Come and see our Activity Trail
The
Willow Dome is thriving, providing both an interesting and pleasant
place to play or sit and chat with friends. Around the dome and
the 'quiet playground, each child in the school has also planted
their own daffodil or tulip bulb.

With other monies raised
by the PTA, we have been able to purchase play equiptment and
'large' games for use during the lunchbreak - these are popular
and provide children with the opportunity to try new things, as
well as keeping them fit and happy.

A story circle has
also been built. This provides the children with a forum in which
to re-enact plays or tell stories - either as class activities
or in their break times.

A number of park benches
and picnic tables have also been installed which provide places
to meet with friends, and also allow children to 'picnic' during
fine weather - always a popular choice!
A donation of PTA funds
was given to an entusiastic group of Year 6 pupils to design and
furnish a special 'Year 6' area. After much consultation with
their peers it was decided that a selection of planters and picninc
tables - for rest and relaxation - and a basketball hoop, table
tennis table and table football table would satisfy those of a
more energetic nature. The original 'design committee' - who had
moved on to pastures new by the time that the area was finally
completed - were keen to return to hand over the results of all
of their hard work to the current Year 6 pupils.

Southwater
Summer Fete
This year traditional family fun and enjoyment returned with Summer
Fete celebrations. Side shows and stalls provided a relaxed atosphere,
with displays of gym and dance in the arena for parents, granparents
and friends to enjoy. A number of enthusiastic parents thought
that this was the 'best ever' as family's were able to take part
in all of the fun and activities together.

Maureen Hazell Cair
of the PTA Carnival Committee, said " It all went tremendously
well, we had the perfect weather and once again the event was
hugely supported. We are hoping to raise around £6,000 for
the schools".
Bordering the arena
were a wide variety of stalls, games and fairground rides for
people of all ages to enjoy including quad bikes, a Star Wars
simulator and a huge inflatable slide. Crafts, books, cakes and
jewellery were on sale whilst Year Six pupils again organised
ran their own stalls.

The fete was
undoubtedly a great success and thanks must go to all those involved.
Much organisation was needed prior to the event itself and coordination
was needed on the day to ensure everything ran smoothly.
Thank
you to all those who helped before, during or after the event
in the great clean up. It was much appreciated.

| Christmas
Fayre

The
Christmas Fair once again proved to be a very popular and well
attended event.
A continuous queue of children ensured that 'Santa and his Elves'
were kept very busy and the numerous stalls, games and amusements,
organised and run by pupils, teachers and parents, made for an
afternoon of festive fun.
The tombola, teddy bear raffle and jam jar tombola - perennial
family favourites - were as usual sell-out events ensuring everyone
went home with a present or two! |
Fireworks Extravaganza

The 2009 firework
display was the most successful ever, drawing by far the biggest
crowd to what is always a popular event throughout the Horsham
area. A troup of Fire Eaters and Fire Jugglers entertained the
crowd ahead of the spectacular fireworks displays; as usual
the evening went off with a real bang.
Superb organisation,
overseen by the P.T.A. committee, ensured that everyone enjoyed
themselves. The event was kicked off by the Head teachers who
judged the best dressed guy competition, followed by 'silent'
fireworks for the smaller members of the family. The main display
provided a louder and more spectacular pyrotechnics show which
once again stunned the crowds.
A marvellous amount of money was raised which will enable the
schools to progress with ongoing projects.
