School Sports and Leisure Clubs

Southwater Junior School offers a wide range of over 30 school clubs, some held at lunchtime, and some held after school. Most are run by willing staff volunteers, with a selection of activities run by Horsham Leisure Link or outside agencies. All clubs are subject to a small termly fee that helps to ensure that we can continue to provide a wide range of activities, with suitable resources for as many pupils as possible.

'Kids Like Us'

We are also lucky to host the 'Kids Like Us' club - a daily breakfast and after school club at Southwater Junior School. They are registered with Ofsted and can take infant and junior school children. Their aim is to create a club that children choose to come to because they want to, not just because they have to.

Breakfast Club
From 8.00am they provide fruit juice and breakfast followed by quiet activities. A calm atmosphere means that the children are ready to start learning when they are taken to class for registration.

After School
At the end of the school day they collect Infant School children from their classes and bring them to the club room based in a mobile classroom. Junior school children join after school from 3.30pm. They have sole use of the club room where the children’s creative work is displayed, creating a bright and ever changing environment.

Here, children can choose from a variety of stimulating activities to keep them entertained for the afternoon. These include arts and crafts, outdoor play, imaginative and creative play, puzzles and board games.

Please call in and meet teh 'Kids Like Us' team to see for yourself the wide variety of activities that they can offer your children or call them on 07738 935805 or e-mail them at info@kidslikeusclubs.co.uk

Our determined Cross Country team ran a hard race against a total of 288 runners. The mile long course was tough, but all competitors made it to the finish. Robert Wright from Southwater led the boys home in 1st place!

Our Hockey teams were victorious in the Horsham & District League last year, having played with gusto and determination they finished in 1st and 3rd positions overall, and look forward with relish to this year's tournaments.

Our Basketball team faced some fierce opposition last year but held on to finish in 4th place. They should however be very pleased with the fantastic display of sportsmanship shown throughout the matches. A determined team is warming up to face the opposition in this year's round of matches, led by Mr Boynes

The school’s Tag Rugby players carried home the winners trophy from the Horsham & District tournament held at Horsham Rugby Club - well done!. There has been a good turn out at this year's Rugby club so competition to be in this year's team will be fierce!

Meanwhile, our Netball team faced some tough and challenging competition in the Horsham & District League last season but finished deserved runners up. They have also played and won matches against Burgess Hill School for Girls.

Our Table Tennis teams played a number of successful matches against local rivals castlewood as well as playing in the Horsham and District tournament; this remains a popular sport and matches are eagerly anticipated for the coming year.

Our Distict Sports Athletics Team were victorious at the Horsham Primary School event held at Broadbridge Heath. The team claimed the shield after beating ten other local schools following a superb day of competition.

Our Cricket teams played extremely well this season and finished 5th (out of 14) in the Horsham schools Kwik Cricket tournament.

Meanwhile, our girls cricket team won the Horsham & District round of their competition which took them through to the Sussex County Kwik Cricket final. They played strongly to finish a magnificent third.

Upper and Lower Junior Sports Days. Both days took place without interruption from the rain and were again enjoyed by both the children and the many parents that came along to cheer. The children all displayed sportsmanship and enthusiasm, and the trophy was won by Raylands (Red) team.
